Andrew and Sally’s Kids Head West
It isn’t clear if Eli was the first born to Andrew and Sally. Albert lists the boys in a different order, (Leroy, Mahlon, Lewis, Simpson, Eli) Some Ancestry trees do show Eli born further into the family line. What we do know is the brothers were born close together and we can easily speculate what the energy level may have been!
In Albert’s words,
“Eli Mc is dead, he left I think 3 children, 2 boys and a girl in San Francisco, Calif. They was well off and went in hy society. Bill (William) Mc did own the finest saloon and hotel on Front or Water St in San F. and I think the other boy is a Doctor McIntire. That is about all I know of them”
Very little is known or documented about Eli’s children except that one son, William owned a saloon and hotel down on the waterfront. This would have been around the time of the California Goldrush so his business was likely quite lucrative. According to a mid to late 1800’s map of San Francisco, Front Street was originally on the waterfront but with later development the area was land-filled to extend the area further towards the water. The view must have been stunning during the time Bill ran the saloon, especially after having a few pints! Eli’s other son was a doctor, according to Albert and that is supported by an 1865 Tax Record where D.W. McIntire was living in Grass Valley, California as a practicing surgeon. Grass Valley is northeast of Sacramento and west of Lake Tahoe.
